Hayloft for Style

For Style class, we have to imitate the styles from different sources and make our own compositions. For the first project, we had to draw a 1950s hayloft with the choice of one of these styles: 101 Dalmations, Pinocchio, and Open Season. Me being a line dominant illustrator, I chose 101 Dalmations. The scenes below are the same; only one is during the day and the other is at night.

Image and Idea

Image and Idea with Steven Turk was one of the best classes I've taken at Art Center; it was a liberating class. I felt that I really could go crazy with ideas and concepts and the assignments were some of the most fun projects I've worked on so far. The first assignment was a blackout poem, where we had to pick out interesting words from a boring article and cross out everything else, leaving only the interesting words, creating a blackout poem. Second was Project Headline, which was pick an article and make an illustration for it (my article was about the legal battle between Shephard Fairey and Associated Press over the copyrights of the infamous poster.) Third was to come up with superhero from an inanimate object, and fourth was to create a poster for a charity.

I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for the class. :)

First Post

Summer is here already, and things are off to a hectic start already. After being on break for three weeks, it actually feels good to be back in school again. I'm looking forward to my classes this term, I think they will be great. Especially Creative Perspective with Robert Hunt- lots of good things to be learned here! Speaking of perspective, I failed to get in VisComm 1 for the third time. What's up, Art Center? The first time, you guys told me I needed to decide my track so I did. Then I applied again, and you guys told me that there was no space left and to try again in the Summer. So I applied for the third time and was number two on the waitlist. Still didn't get in.

Seriously, I think Art Center should just open another class for Illustration students becuase I notice that there are enough students trying to get in to open another class. But that's just one person's opinion. What do you think?

Knowing myself, I'll probably try again in Fall. This class seems like a really helpful one, so that's why I'm being stubborn about it.

In other news, I'm excited to start this blog and share art and opinions with others. Below is a quick doodle done with my tablet. Until next time!
